Non absorbable sutures
Non-absorbable sutures are not absorbed by body tissue or fluids and need to be removed manually. An advantage of this is that there is no foreign substance left in the body as all suture material is removed in the process.

Indications for non absorbable sutures
A non-resorbable suture is mainly used externally, for example when suturing the skin. The advantage is that the wound support is permanent and does not decrease in the same way as when using an absorbable suture. When wound support is no longer needed, the stitches are removed surgically.
A non-absorbable suture can for certain indications also be used inside the body in environments where the durability of a resorbable suture is not enough.
Material for non absorbable sutures
Silk is the classic material for non-absorbable sutures, with the suture strands woven from cocoon threads of silk butterfly. Nowadays, however, most non-absorbing sutures are made of synthetic fibers such as nylon, polyamide and polyester. Examples of synthetic sutures are Ethilon, Prolene, Mersilene and Supramid.
In some cases, stainless steel sutures are used.
In the web shop you will also find an assortment of PTFE sutures that have tissue-friendly non-reactive properties.
