The monofilament construction gives Ethilon a smooth, non-porous surface that facilitates smooth passage through tissue and minimizes capillary transport. The suture is available in black, green, or uncolored, depending on the size and needle combination.
Non-absorbable suture with gradual loss of strength
Ethilon is classified as non-absorbable and does not degrade in the same way as absorbable sutures. However, polyamide can undergo slow hydrolysis in the body, which over time can reduce the thread’s tensile strength. Ethilon should therefore not be selected when permanent strength retention is required.
