Mersilene – a non-absorbable braided polyester suture from Ethicon

Mersilene from Ethicon is a synthetic, braided, and non-absorbable suture made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET). The suture is intended for soft tissue closure and ligatures where long-term or permanent tissue support is required.

Mersilene Braided polyester without surface coating

The braided construction gives Mersilene good flexibility and handling properties. Unlike Ethibond Excel, Mersilene has no surface coating, which gives the suture different friction and handling characteristics. The suture is available in green and white.

Permanent Strength

Mersilene is non-absorbable and is designed to maintain its tensile strength within the tissue over the long term. The suture is used in general surgery, plastic surgery, cardiovascular surgery, and ophthalmic surgery, among other fields. The product line includes several sizes, thread lengths, and needle combinations.
