Prolene – non-absorbable monofilament polypropylene suture from Ethicon
Prolene from Ethicon is a synthetic, monofilament, non-absorbable polypropylene suture. It is used for soft tissue closure and ligatures in various surgical fields when long-term or permanent tissue support is required.
Smooth and tissue-friendly design
The monofilament design gives Prolene a smooth, non-porous surface that facilitates smooth passage through tissue and minimizes capillary transport. The material is relatively biologically inert and does not adhere to tissue, which also makes it easier to remove the suture. Prolene is available in blue and uncolored versions.
Permanent suture with a wide range of applications
Prolene is non-absorbable and is designed to provide long-term strength within the tissue. The suture is used in general surgery, plastic surgery, vascular surgery, and ophthalmic surgery, among other fields. The product line includes several sizes, thread lengths, and needle combinations.
