Perma-Hand – non-absorbable silk suture from Ethicon
This silk suture is a non-absorbable, biological (natural), and braided suture.
Perma-Hand from Ethicon is a natural, braided, and non-absorbable silk suture. The thread consists primarily of fibroin, a protein extracted from the silk of the silkworm ( Bombyx mori). The suture is used for soft tissue closure and ligatures in various surgical fields.
Flexible suture with good knot-tying properties
The silk fibers are processed to remove natural wax and gum before the thread is braided and coated with a special wax coating. This construction results in a soft and flexible suture with good handling and knot security. Perma-Hand is available in black and uncolored.
Non-absorbable with gradual degradation
Perma-Hand is classified as non-absorbable, but silk is a natural protein that gradually degrades in the body. The thread’s tensile strength therefore decreases over time, and this suture should not be selected when permanent strength retention is required.
