Silon – non-absorbable polyamide sutures from Vitrex
Silon from VITREX—non-absorbable—monofilament—synthetic suture comparable to Ethilon®.
The product line includes both monofilament and braided versions with different properties for skin and soft tissue closure.
Silon monofilament
Monofilament Silon is made of polyamide 6 and has a smooth, non-porous surface that provides low resistance when passing through tissue. The suture has good knot strength and is primarily used for skin closure in general and plastic surgery. It is available in blue and black.
Braided Silon
Braided Silon is a polyamide multifilament suture with good flexibility, high knot security, and smooth passage through tissue. It is used, among other things, for skin, subcutaneous tissue, fascia, peritoneum, gastrointestinal tissue, and ligatures. The suture is available in white and black.
Both types are classified as non-absorbable but, according to the manufacturer, should not be used when long-term mechanical support is required. Braided Silon should also not be used for suturing infected wounds.
