Supramid from B. Braun is a synthetic, non-absorbable polyamide suture. The suture is primarily intended for skin closure and is available in two different designs depending on the thread size.
In the thinnest sizes, USP 6/0–5/0, Supramid is monofilament and made of polyamide 6. From USP 4/0 to USP 2, the suture has a pseudomonofilament construction with a core of polyamide 6.6 and a smooth sheath of polyamide 6. This construction combines a cohesive surface with flexible handling.
Supramid does not degrade in the body and therefore provides long-term tissue support. The suture is uncoated and is available in black or white, as well as in several sizes and needle combinations. The choice of configuration is tailored to the tissue and the specific suturing technique.
