PDS II – Long-Term Absorbable Monofilament Suture
Ethicon PDS II is a synthetic, monofilament absorbable suture.Thanks to its extended tensile strength, it enables a broader range of surgical applications. At the same time, its handling characteristics are nearly comparable to those of a multifilament, braided suture.
Monofilament PDS sutures glide easily through tissue and pose a minimal risk of microorganism transmission along the thread.
Ethicon PDS Sutures – Strength
Ethicon PDS II suture causes an extremely negligible tissue reaction during the degradation process.Like all monofilament materials, Ethicon’s PDS suture is sensitive to mechanical stress, such as that caused by needle guides. Therefore, some caution must be exercised when handling it.
Tensile Strength of PDS II Suture 3-0 and Larger:
2weeks = 80%
4 weeks = 70%
6 weeks = 60%
Tensile Strength of PDS II Suture 4-0 and Smaller:
2 weeks = 60%
4 weeks = 40%
6 weeks = 35%
PDS II sutures are completely absorbed after 182–238 days.
