Surgicryl Rapid – rapidly absorbable suture from SMI

Surgicryl Rapid from SMI is a synthetic, braided, and coated polyglycolic acid suture. It is intended for closing skin, mucosa, and other superficial soft tissues that require support only during the early healing phase.

Flexible braided design

The braided design gives Surgicryl Rapid good flexibility and knot security. A coating of polycaprolactone and calcium stearate reduces surface friction and facilitates the suture’s passage through the tissue. The suture is available in uncolored beige and violet versions.

Rapid loss of tensile strength and resorption

Surgicryl Rapid degrades through hydrolysis. After approximately seven days, about 50 percent of the original tensile strength remains. Complete resorption occurs after approximately 42 days. The suture should therefore be selected for tissue that does not require support for longer than about one week and is not intended for ligatures.
