Catgut Chrom from SMI is a natural, absorbable suture made from purified collagen derived from bovine serous tissue. The collagen is treated with chromium salts to slow down degradation and give the suture a longer strength profile than Catgut Plain.

Catgut Chrom consists of twisted collagen fibers that have been polished to provide a smooth, monofilament-like surface. This construction results in a flexible suture with good handling properties and knot security. The suture is dark brown and has no separate surface coating.
After approximately 14 days, about 50 percent of the original tensile strength remains. Complete resorption normally occurs after about 90 days through biological degradation. The rate of resorption may vary between different tissues and increases in infected tissue or environments with high proteolytic activity.
We typically ship the sutures no later than the day after your order is placed, provided it is received before 2:00 p.m. Is it particularly urgent, or do you have any questions? Don’t hesitate to contact our customer service team, and we’ll guide you in the right direction. You can also check out our page for Catgut Plain.
