STRATAFIX Symmetric PDS Plus from Ethicon is a synthetic, monofilament, and slowly absorbable polydioxanone suture. It is intended for knotless soft tissue closure and is treated with triclosan to prevent bacterial colonization on the suture’s surface.
The suture features a unidirectional design and is available in multiple thread sizes, lengths, and needle combinations for open, laparoscopic, and robot-assisted surgery.
Unlike STRATAFIX Spiral, this suture features symmetrically designed anchors that are pressed into the filament. The design preserves the suture’s continuous core while the anchors hold the tissue in place after each pass.
This enables continuous closure without traditional surgical knots and helps distribute the load along the suture line.
Polydioxanone provides long-term mechanical support during healing. STRATAFIX Symmetric PDS Plus offers tissue support for up to six weeks and can be used for closing tissues subject to higher loads, such as fascia, when used in accordance with the product’s instructions for use.
The suture degrades gradually through hydrolysis and is normally completely resorbed after approximately 210 days. The triclosan treatment inhibits bacterial colonization on the suture’s surface but does not replace standard surgical hygiene or customary infection prevention measures.
