STRATAFIX Spiral PDS Plus – Knotless Antibacterial Suture

STRATAFIX Spiral PDS Plus from Ethicon is a synthetic, monofilament, and slowly absorbable polydioxanone suture. The suture is treated with triclosan to prevent bacterial colonization on the surface of the thread and is intended for soft tissue closure where long-term support is desired.

The products on this page feature a unidirectional design and are available in multiple thread sizes, lengths, and needle combinations.

Spiral-shaped barbs for knotless closure

The spiral-shaped barbs grip the tissue after each pass and hold the suture in place without traditional surgical knots. The design enables continuous suturing and helps distribute the load along the entire closure.

STRATAFIX Spiral differs from STRATAFIX Symmetric in the design of its barbs. The barbs on the Spiral version are positioned around the thread, while the Symmetric version features symmetrically pressed barbs.

Long-term support with antibacterial treatment

Polydioxanone degrades slowly through hydrolysis and provides mechanical support to the tissue over an extended healing period. STRATAFIX Spiral PDS Plus retains a significant portion of its tensile strength during the first six weeks and is typically completely resorbed after approximately 182–238 days.

The triclosan treatment inhibits bacterial colonization on the surface of the suture. It complements established hygiene routines but does not replace standard measures for preventing or treating wound infections.
