Monosyn from B. Braun. A synthetic, monofilament, absorbable suture.

Monosyn from B. Braun is a synthetic, monofilament, and absorbable suture made of glyconate. The material is a copolymer of glycolide, ε-caprolactone, and trimethylene carbonate. The suture is available in both violet and uncolored versions.

Monofilament suture for soft tissue

The monofilament design provides a smooth surface and easy passage through tissue. Monosyn is intended for soft tissue closure and ligatures in general surgery, gynecology, and oral surgery, among other fields. Examples of applications include subcutaneous and intradermal suturing, as well as skin and mucosal closure.

Strength and Resorption

Monosyn has a medium-term strength profile. Approximately 50 percent of the original knot strength remains after about 13–14 days. The material degrades through hydrolysis and is normally completely resorbed after about 60–90 days. 

Residual tensile strength of Monosyn:

2 weeks: 50%

The suture is 100% resorbed after 60–90 days.

Monosyn is made from glyconate and is indicated for gastrointestinal surgery, gynecology and obstetrics, urology, skin closure (intra- and subcutaneous), pediatrics, and ligatures.
