Surgicel – Resorbable Hemostatic Agent Made of Cellulose

Surgicel from Ethicon is a sterile, absorbable local hemostatic agent made from oxidized regenerated cellulose. The material is applied to the bleeding site and can be shaped to fit the size and shape of the treatment area.

Surgicel is used as an adjunct during surgical procedures to facilitate control of capillary, venous, and minor arterial bleeding when ligation or other conventional methods are impractical or do not provide sufficient control.

Surgicel is available in various sizes and forms to meet a range of surgical needs.

The Surgicel product line includes several variants with different textures and application methods. Surgicel Original is a knitted material for general surgical use, while Surgicel NU-KNIT features a denser and stronger weave. Surgicel SNoW ABS consists of a textured, non-woven material that conforms to irregular surfaces, and Surgicel Fibrillar has a soft, fibrous structure that can be separated into layers and shaped to fit the treatment area. Surgicel Powder is a hemostatic powder supplied in a pre-filled applicator for targeted application to the bleeding site.

The different formulations allow you to choose Surgicel based on the shape, size, and accessibility of the bleeding site, as well as the desired handling and application method. All variants are based on oxidized regenerated cellulose and are used as an adjunct for local hemostasis during surgical procedures.

Properties, indications, and handling may vary between variants. The product is intended for qualified healthcare professionals and must always be used in accordance with the current instructions for use.
