PGA RESORBA – Braided resorbable suture from Resorba

PGA RESORBA® – Braided, resorbable suture made of polyglycolic acid

PGA RESORBA® is a polymer based on glycolic acid. The degradation of the PGA suture in the tissue occurs through water absorption and is a reverse process of synthesis. The released glycolic acid monomers are broken down into CO₂ and H₂O through the body’s natural enzymatic processes.

The thin, precision-braided filaments provide very high tensile strength combined with excellent flexibility. The special surface treatment encapsulates the fiber bundles in a thin layer, which reduces friction against the tissue.

Absorbable sutures support the tissue during the healing phase, while gradually losing their tensile strength. PGA RESORBA® contains precision-braided filaments of polyglycolic acid, which provide a standardized and moderate rate of resorption in the tissue.

Strength and Resorption

PGA RESORBA degrades through hydrolysis. Approximately 90 percent of the original tensile strength remains after seven days, 80 percent after 14 days, and about 50 percent after three weeks. Complete resorption occurs after approximately 90 days. The product line includes several sizes, lengths, and needle combinations.
