Glycolon – Short-term resorbable monofilament suture from Resorba
Glycolon from Resorba is a synthetic, monofilament, and absorbable suture made from a copolymer of polyglycolic acid and ε-caprolactone. It is intended for soft tissue closure and ligatures where the tissue requires support only for a limited portion of the healing period.
Smooth monofilament design
The monofilament design gives Glycolon a smooth surface and reduces the capillary transport that can occur with braided sutures. The suture passes smoothly through the tissue and requires no separate surface coating. Glycolon is available in both uncolored and violet.
Strength and Resorption of Glycolon
Glycolon degrades through hydrolysis. Approximately 70 percent of the original tensile strength remains after seven days and approximately 40 percent after 14 days. Complete resorption occurs after approximately 90 days. The product line includes several thread sizes, lengths, and needle combinations.
