Chirasorb Plus – Antibacterial and Absorbable Suture

Chirasorb Plus from Vitrex is a synthetic, braided, and medium-term absorbable suture. The suture consists of 90 percent glycolide and 10 percent L-lactide and has an antibacterial coating containing chlorhexidine diacetate.

The suture is intended for general soft tissue closure and ligatures in various surgical fields. It is available in violet and uncolored versions, as well as in several sizes and needle combinations.

Antibacterial coating with chlorhexidine

Chlorhexidine is an antiseptic agent active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The coating provides antibacterial protection on the surface of the suture and complements established hygiene routines and proper surgical handling.

Chirasorb Plus should not be used in patients with a known allergy or hypersensitivity to chlorhexidine.

Medium-strength profile

The braided and coated design provides good flexibility, controlled knot fixation, and smooth passage through tissue. The suture retains approximately 75 percent of its original tensile strength after 14 days and approximately 50 percent after 21 days.

Chirasorb Plus degrades through hydrolysis and is normally completely absorbed after approximately 56–70 days. The suture should not be used in tissues subject to expansion or requiring long-term mechanical support.
