DERMABOND PRINEO – Skin Closure with Mesh and Tissue Adhesive
DERMABOND PRINEO from Ethicon is a topical skin closure system that combines a self-adhesive, latex-free mesh with DERMABOND tissue adhesive made from highly purified 2-octylcyanoacrylate. The system is used to hold well-aligned skin edges together following surgical incisions and suitable wounds.
The mesh provides support along the wound closure and holds the skin edges in place while the adhesive is applied. The adhesive polymerizes over the mesh, forming a flexible layer and a microbial barrier.
Two-Step Skin Closure
First, the self-adhesive mesh is placed over the dry, approximated skin edges. Next, the tissue adhesive is applied in a continuous layer over the mesh. The normal drying time is approximately 60 seconds.
DERMABOND PRINEO should be used topically and in conjunction with—not instead of—deep dermal sutures when the depth or stress on the wound requires it. The system typically remains in place during the initial healing phase and then gradually detaches from the skin.
Various lengths for surgical incisions
DERMABOND PRINEO is available in several versions:
- 22 cm: one mesh section and 2.9 ml of tissue adhesive
- 42 cm: two 22-cm mesh sections and 3.8 ml of tissue adhesive
60 cm: mesh in a dispenser and 3.8 ml of tissue adhesive
The different lengths allow the system to be adapted to the size of the incision. Application and aftercare must always follow the instructions for use for the specific version.
