HistoacrylHistoacryl Tissue Adhesive from B. Braun

Histoacryl from B. Braun is a sterile tissue adhesive consisting of n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate monomer. The adhesive polymerizes rapidly upon contact with tissue fluid and forms a solid layer that holds well-aligned wound edges together.

For skin closure, Histoacryl is intended for clean, tension-free wounds, such as surgical incisions, incisions following minimally invasive surgery, and simple, thoroughly cleaned traumatic wounds.

Blue or Transparent Histoacryl

Histoacryl Blue is blue-colored to make the adhesive clearly visible during application. The color facilitates control of placement and the amount applied for approved uses.

Histoacryl Translucent is transparent and specifically intended for use where a less visible adhesive layer is desired, such as for skin closure on the face.

Both variants are supplied in 0.5-ml ampoules and in packages of 10 ampoules.

Multiple Approved Indications

B. Braun specifies Histoacryl for several indications, including the closure of tension-free skin wounds, sclerotherapy of certain varicose veins, and fixation of surgical meshes. Approved indications and application techniques may vary between product variants and markets.

For deeper or stressed wounds, additional sutures may be needed to relieve tension on the skin closure. Use must always follow the instructions for use for the specific Histoacryl product.
