DERMABOND Tissue Adhesive for Skin Closure

DERMABOND from Ethicon is a sterile tissue adhesive based on highly purified 2-octylcyanoacrylate. It is applied over well-

dermabond

aligned skin edges and polymerizes within a few minutes into a flexible layer that holds the wound edges in place and forms a microbial barrier.

DERMABOND is intended for the topical closure of well-aligned skin edges following surgical incisions and simple, thoroughly cleaned wounds. For deeper wounds, the adhesive may be used in conjunction with, but not as a substitute for, deep dermal sutures.

DERMABOND in three different formulations

DERMABOND 0.5 ml is the standard formulation for topical closure of suitable surgical incisions and wounds. It is available in packs of 6 or 12 applicators.

DERMABOND MINI 0.36 ml is designed for smaller incisions and wounds where a smaller amount of adhesive is needed. MINI is applied in at least two thin layers and comes in a package of 12 applicators.

DERMABOND ADVANCED 0.7 ml features an applicator that provides control for both wide and narrow application. The adhesive is applied in a continuous layer and is available in packages of 6 or 12 applicators.

Topical application to dry wound edges

DERMABOND should be applied in a thin layer on top of dry, well-aligned skin edges—not between the wound edges or under the skin. Areas subject to high stress may need to be relieved with deep sutures or other supplementary wound closure.

The polymerized adhesive layer acts as a temporary protective barrier during healing and normally peels off on its own. Product selection and application technique must always follow the instructions for use for the specific DERMABOND formulation.
